Horse Paintings, Preston

Geoff Rollinson comes from Preston, somewhere we may not necessarily associate with the countryside. But within Geoff’s studios in Preston you will see that his heart, and his artistic muse, so clearly belong to the lush British countryside with all its natural surroundings and wildlife. The country cottage, the traditional farmland and the many animals you associate with the large county estates that belong to many of England’s landowners and gentry, are a constant feature within his works. The traditional farming and management of the lands, are also seen in a lot of Geoff’s paintings. This is largely connected to his experience and previous life’s work, as for many years he worked as a gamekeeper on land very similar to that featured within his landscape paintings.
Horse Power, which features two horses and a man working the traditional plough, is one of the commissioned works you can find on this website that consists of both landscape and mammals. The majestic and huge shire horse is shown here to be working the plough, pulling along the machinery needed to clear the land that lies before them. Their work has only just begun as you see the land untouched. The clear blue skies and the birds bind the hard labour and hard work that man and beast have to accomplish, with the feeling that they have truly satisfying employment working in these beautiful invigorating surroundings. Horse power can also be found under the title of ‘Ploughing Shires’ in the prints available for purchase in Preston. If you have a love for the horse, this is one of those paintings that you will find truly special.
Other commissioned paintings produced by the Preston based artist Geoff Rollinson is a horse bust. This gives us a beautiful close up of the horse, with its riding tackle such as the bridle, and bit. The eyes that draw you in, the muscular neck, along with the soft nose and flowing mane, give you the impression of a well-loved, gentle giant. One may speculate that this was a beloved horse owned by a farming family, that they wanted a portrait of in order to keep a treasured memory forever within their household and home.
Bay Mare is another one of Geoff’s paintings of a horse, held in his studio in Preston. This horse is without any riding gear, stood next to a wooden fence that adds scope and context to the picture, but doesn’t detract from the main feature of this beautiful painting of a female horse, looking over at it’s painter, and standing tall and proud with its glowing coat and flowing tail.
